Can Apple Watch track padel by itself?
Not the score. Padel isn’t on Apple’s list of workout types. Apple’s advice is to choose Other if no type matches.
A workout tracks your effort, such as your time and heart rate. To count points, games and sets, you need a separate scoring app from the App Store.
What you need
- An Apple Watch and an iPhone.
- A scoring app that runs on the watch. There are several, and we compared six of them.
- To know the format you play. Scoring apps don’t all handle 40-40 the same way.
We recommend Countoo, the app we make, so the steps below are for Countoo. Other apps work in a similar way, but their screens and options differ.
How to keep score with Countoo
Countoo needs an iPhone on iOS 17 or later and an Apple Watch on watchOS 10.6 or later. It’s free to download, but scoring on the watch needs a subscription. The subscription starts with a free trial, and you set it up on your iPhone.
- Install Countoo and set up the subscription on your iPhone.
- Open Countoo on your watch and allow access to Apple Health. The watch app needs it.
- Choose padel, then singles or doubles.
- Choose who serves first.
- After each point, tap the side that won it.
- Wrong tap? Use undo to take the last point back.
- After the match, your result, time, heart rate and calories are on your iPhone.
One watch keeps the score for the whole court, so only one of the four players needs to wear it.
What you see during the match
The watch counts 15, 30 and 40, then shows deuce and advantage. It adds each game and set for you. At 6-6 it switches to a tiebreak. It then counts in plain numbers up to 7 with a two-point lead, and changes the server.
It also marks which side is serving and hands the serve over after each game. Countoo records the match as a workout through Apple Health, so you don’t need to start one in the Workout app. The app itself is in English.
Check your format first
Get this right before you pay for anything. Countoo counts padel with advantage, so a game at deuce goes on until someone leads by two points. Countoo doesn’t support:
- golden point
- star point
- a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a third set
- Americano
If your club or league plays one of these, pick an app that lists it. Our comparison shows which apps do. Not sure what these words mean? Read padel scoring rules explained.
Tips for keeping score in a match
- Agree on the sides first. Tell the others which side of the screen is your pair.
- Tap right after the point. Do it before you walk back to your position.
- Say the score out loud before each serve. If someone disagrees, you find out at once and can still fix it.
- Use undo instead of guessing. It takes back the last point, so a wrong tap costs you nothing.
Common questions
Which workout should I choose for padel on Apple Watch?
If you use Apple’s Workout app, Apple says to choose Other when no type matches. If your scoring app records workouts, check its listing to see how it saves them. Some save padel as a tennis workout.
Do I need my phone on court?
No, not during the match. You keep score on the watch. You do need your iPhone to set up the app and your subscription. Your match shows up in the iPhone app later, where you can see your history.
Does Countoo work on Garmin or Samsung watches?
No. Countoo is for Apple Watch only.
Is it free?
It’s free to download, but keeping score on the watch needs a subscription after the free trial. The App Store shows the price for your country.
